| TITLE: | Qualitative-quantitative assessment of the heterogeneity of the coastal aquifer in Israel |
|---|---|
| PROBLEM: | The lithology and structure of the coastal aquifer in Israel are highly heterogeneous which results in a complex flow pattern. Hence, the need for an adequate quantitative characterization of heterogeneity as a precondition for rational operation of this important aquifer. |
| OBJECTIVES: | To map the hydrogeological heterogeneity of the aquifer on the basis of information derived from lithological and water head data. |
| APPROACH: | Use of lithologic well log data, water level data and point data from pump tests for a first level assessment of the field of transmissivity. The methodology is based on the use of variational methods which are practiced in the oil exploration industry. |
