International Water-Related OrganizationsThe UNESCO Water Portal is intended to enhance access to information related to freshwater available on the World Wide Web. The site provides links to the current UNESCO and UNESCO-led programmes on freshwater and will serve as an interactive point for sharing, browsing, and searching websites of water-related organizations, including a range of categories such as water links, water events, learning modules, and other on-line resources. Cap-Net is an international network for capacity building in integrated water resources management--an outcome of a 1996 UNDP/IHE Conference on Capacity Building for the water sector. The Euro-Mediterranean Information System (EMWIS) is an information and knowledge exchange tool on water among Euro-Mediterranean Partnership countries. There are direct links to the Israeli, Jordanian, and Palestinian EMWIS pages. Middle East Desalination Research Center (MEDRC). It is the mission of MEDRC to conduct, facilitate, promote, coordinate, and support basic and applied research in water desalination technology and supporting fields. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is an intergovernmental organization and serves as the UN system's authorized voice on the state and behavior of the Earth's atmosphere, its interaction with oceans, the climate it produces, and the resulting distribution of water resources. Government Water-Related OrganizationsPalestinian Water Authority--West Bank/Gaza. Governmental institution established in 1995 to be the regulatory body of the water and wastewater sector in West Bank and Gaza. The PWA mission is to secure environmentally sound and sustainable development of water resources through efficient and equitable management.(If website is down, see alternate contact.) Meteorological Department-Jordan. Establishment and management of observation networks and forecast offices; services for aviation, marine, agriculture, hydrology, environment, and other sectors; issuance of related warnings and forecasts; and the promotion of research and training in meteorology Ministry of Water & Irrigation--Jordan.
Responsible for the overall monitoring of the water sector, water supply
and wastewater system and the related projects, planning and management,
and formulation of national water strategies and policies, research and
development, information systems, and procurement of financial resources.
Its role also includes the provision of centralized water-related data. The Ministry of National Infrastructures--Israel. Responsible for overall national water infrastructure including water supply, planning, and management. Ministry of Environment--Israel.
The Ministry is responsible for formulating an integrated and comprehensive
national environmental policy and for developing specific strategies,
standards, and priorities for environmental protection and resource conservation. Meteorological Service-Israel. Observe and understand the weather and climate of Israel and to provide meteorological information required by Israel's national needs and international obligations. U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) --United States The USGS provides reliable, impartial information to describe and understand the Earth, including water resources, and conducts basic and problem-related research. Environmental Protection
Agency (USEPA)--United States. The USEPA enforces Federal clean
water and safe drinking water laws, provides support for municipal wastewater
treatment plants, and takes part in pollution prevention efforts aimed
at protecting watersheds and sources of drinking water. The Agency carries
out both regulatory and voluntary programs to fulfill its mission to protect
the nation's waters. British Geological
Survey (BGS)/Water--United Kingdom. The BGS provides comprehensive,
objective, impartial, and up-to-date geoscientific information, advice,
and services to the client and user community in the United Kingdom and
overseas, enabling safe, sustainable, and efficient choices to be made
in managing the environment and utilizing its resources. Water-Related Professional SocietiesAmerican Water Resources Association (AWRA). A non-profit, professional scientific organization dedicated to advancement of multidisciplinary water resources education, management, and research. American Water Works Association (AWWA).
An international nonprofit scientific and educational society dedicated
to knowledge, information, and advocacy to improve the quality and supply
of drinking water. Geological Society of Israel.
A non--profit organization whose aims are to provide a forum for presentation
and discussion of new subjects and current issues and to promote Earth
Sciences in Israel. International Association of Hydrogeologists
(IAH). A scientific and educational organization whose aims are
to promote research into and understanding of the proper management and
protection of groundwater for the common good throughout the world. Inter-American Water Resources Network
(IWRN). The mission of the IWRN is to build and strengthen water
resources partnerships between nations, organizations, and individuals
that transcend disciplines, political boundaries, and language barriers,
promote education and the open exchange of information and technical expertise,
and enhance communication, cooperation, collaboration, and financial commitment
to the implementation of integrated water and land resources management
within the context of environmental and economic sustainability in the
